Gurudwara Pulpukhta Sahib in Hoshiarpur

This is a famous Gurudwara in Hoshiarpur district. It is located in Pulpukhta town on Tanda- Hargobind Road near Tanda railway station. This shrine was built to commemorate the visit of sixth Sikh Guru Har Gobind Sahib ji who visited and stayed at this place for some time.

On the banks of Kali Bein, it is the place where Guru Sahib tied his horse with a log of Tahli tree. Hence, it was also named as Tahli Sahib. This wood log is still preserved inside sarovar of this Gurudwara sahib.

Gurudwara Bhai Joga Singh Ji in Hoshiarpur

This Gurudwara is situated in the middle of Hoshiarpur city in Mohalla Shekhon. It was built in memory of Bhai Joga Singh ji who was a disciple of Guru Gobind Singh ji. Bhai Joga Singh hailed from Peshawar but he used to serve in the devotion of Guru Sahib at Anandpur. He spent many years of his life in service of Guru Gobind Singh ji until his parents urged Guru Sahib to send him back to get married. Guru gave him the permission but asked him to return for service of Khalsa whenever he called him up.

At the time of his marriage, after Bhai Joga completed two nuptial lavaan, he received the order of guru sahib to return immediately. He left the marriage ceremonies midway and headed for Anandpur. As he was proceeding, he had a sense of elation to have followed his guru’s orders diligently but at the same time, he was allured by a courtesan. But he could not enter her house because every time he tried to enter, he was stopped by a guard who reminded him of his guru. He realized his mistake and left for Anandpur. He requested for forgiveness from his guru. This shrine is the place where guru sahib saved his disciple from sinning and took him on right path.

Gurudwara Harian Vellan Patshahi VII in Hoshiarpur

This venerated shrine is located in Bajrour village of Hoshiarpur. It is exactly at a distance of 14 km from Hoshiarpur Railway Station on Hoshiarpur- Garhshankar Road. This shrine was built to commemorate seventh Sikh Guru Har Rai ji. It is the place where Guru Sahib visited with a huge army of 2200 horse riders. He stayed at the house of Baba Prajapati ji who was his profound devotee. The Gurudwara is constructed on the site where this house once existed.

Baba Prajapati fed Guru’s horse by digging the roots of creepers growing in his courtyard. Happy with this gesture, Guru Sahib blessed him that those creepers will forever remain green and they are so till today. This Gurudwara got its name from these green creepers as Harian Vellan. There is also the date palm tree to which guru’s horse was tied during his stay.

Gurudwara Sahib Shaheedan, Ladhewal

This historical Gurudwara is related with Sahibzada Ajit Singh ji, who was the eldest son of Guru Gobind Singh ji. This shrine is located in village Ladhewal of Tehsil Mahilpur in Hoshiarpur. In that era, Bassi owner Hakam Jabar Khan used to commit atrocities against Hindus and also kidnapped their girls. Once he kidnapped the wife of a poor Brahmin Devi Das. The Brahmin took shelter under Guru Gobind Singh ji in Anandpur. Guru Sahib sent Sahibzada Ajit Singh ji to rescue his wife from Jabar Khan along with 200 brave Sikh soldiers.

He attacked Hakam Jabar and arrested him after a long strife. As a result of this battle, some Sikh soldiers were injured seriously and even died in the midway while going to Anandpur Sahib. This Gurudwara is located at the place where these soldiers attained martyrdom and their last rites were performed by Sahibzada Ajit Singh himself. In remembrance of this whole incidence, this shrine was built and every Tuesday, a get together is held here which is attended by lots of Sikh devotees.

Gurudwara Garna Sahib in Hoshiarpur

This shrine is located at proximal distance of 1.5 km from Garna Sahib Railway Station in Tehsil Dasuya of Hoshiarpur. It was built in memory of Guru Har Gobind ji. Guru Sahib was coming from Kartarpur when he reached this place.

There used to exist a thick forest of Garna trees and one of their dried bush got stuck in Guruji’s dress. Guru Sahib ordered to bury that bush and blessed it to become green again and solve all the problems of people who touch it. Hence, this Gurudwara was named as Garna Sahib. Many fairs are celebrated throughout the year in Gurudwara Garna Sahib.

Gurudwara Bhai Manjh Ji Samadhan Kangmai

It is located in village Kangmai of Hoshiarpur. It commemorates Bhai Manjh ji who lived here in 17th century. The original name of Bhai Manjh ji was Teertha and he was a very wealthy person. To attain inner solitude, he sought the blessings of a spiritual teacher and hence he met fifth Sikh Guru Arjan Dev ji. He asked for Guru’s blessings but Guru ji told him that the path of Gurbani was full of difficulties. Bhai Teertha did not give up and kept on pleading the guru for blessing of a name. An incident took place during that time.

While bringing logs of wood for community kitchen, Teertha fell in a deep well due to gusty winds. Guru Sahib reached the spot with his disciples due to his divine powers and asked him to come out of well and leave wood there. But Teertha insisted on saving these logs for the community kitchen. So, wood was taken out of well before Teertha. This determination of Bhai ji impressed Guru Sahib and he gave him the name of Manjh ji. Guru also blessed him that he would be remembered forever at this place for fulfilling the wishes of his devotees. Guru ji also gifted him a large iron plate to make chapattis in community kitchen. Every year, Maghi festival is held here to celebrate his birthday.

Gurudwara Jand Sahib, Lehli Kalan

This Gurudwara located in Lahli Kalan village of Hoshiarpur, was built in devotion of Guru Har Rai ji. It is the place visited by Guru Sahib himself in 1651. He came to this village with his 2200 horse riders while going to Harmandar Sahib for Diwali.

He tied his horse to a Jand tree, hence the name of Gurudwara as Jand Sahib. This is also the place where Guru Sahib cured Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of Shah Jahan. After getting well, Dara shikon applauded his gesture and gave him many precious gifts.

Situated on the outskirts of Hoshiarpur city, this Gurudwara is dedicated to sixth Guru Har Gobind ji. It is located at distance of 2.5 km from Hoshiarpur Railway Station in Pur Heeran village. In the midway from Garna Sahib to Kiratpur, Guru Sahib halted at this place for hunting a lion. Here, he was served by a Muslim saint. Guru ji blessed him with the name of Zahaara Zahoor Peer.

Gurudwara Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji

This Gurudwara is situated in village Bharta Ganeshpur of Hoshiarpur district. It is popularly known after Bhai Lakho ji who was a disciple of Guru Har Gobind ji. On the request of Bhai Lakho ji, Guru Sahib visited this place and later on, Bhai ji took his last breath at this place itself.

Gurudwara Shaheedan, Bajrour

This Gurudwara situated in village Bajrawar of Hoshiarpur is also called as Gurudwara Shri Chukhandgarh Sahib. It is built on the place where Sahibzada Ajit Singh ji visited and stayed with his 100 Sikh soldiers en route Bassi Kalan. This was the halt after which Sahibzada moved towards Bajrour for battle against Jabaar Khan Pathan.
